Daisen (大仙市Daisen-shi) is a Japanese city in Akita Prefecture on the island of Honshu.
Daisen is located in the flatlands of central of Akita Prefecture, bordering on the city of Akita to the west, and Iwate Prefecture and the Ōu Mountains on the east. The area of the city is greater than the total metropolitan area of Tokyo.
The National Agricultural Research Center for Tohoku Region (NARCT) is in Daisen.
Daisen City in Akita Prefecture is known as the fireworks capital of Japan; the summer’s Omagari-no-Hanabi is one of the “big three” fireworks competitions and attracts over 800,000 visitors every year. The winter display, held in late March, is equally impressive and lets visitors experience the city’s firework heritage without the massive crowds.
